Ordinances, Info & Forms

March 19, 2025: Proposed Updated Amston Lake Ordinances
Over the 2024-25 winter, the Amston Lake Board of Directors has been working on updating the Ordinances of the Amston Lake District. The ordinances had not been fully reviewed and updated for over a decade, so it was time. Our goals were to create a more cohesive, consistent document using plain language, to remove duplication, and make it easier to find information. Content has been reorganized and reworded, and there are a few substantive content changes:
- Clarified and added some items to “definitions” section.
- Defined personal watercraft (PWC) and expanded the prohibition against jet skis to include all PWCs.
- Clarified that remote control watercraft are subject to the same restrictions as other boats (e.g., 5 mph speed limit, requirement to maintain a distance of at least 12 feet from swimmers or waders). Remote controlled vehicles and toys are prohibited on ALD property.
- Clarified that all boats launched from a trailer must be launched at the boat ramp at Main Beach. This allows for a proper inspection of the boat and trailer to prevent invasive weeds from entering the lake.
- Clarified that lake passes are not interchangeable (i.e., boat stickers must be affixed to watercraft in order to store on ALD property or use in ALD waters; a special designated boat ramp sticker is required to use the Main Beach boat ramp; beach passes are required to access beaches and ROWs; and car hang tags are required to park on ALD property).
- Added requirement to move boat trailers across the street to the grassy Berglund property once the boat is launched, rather than leave them at Main Beach. This is to allow beach parking space for others.
- Consolidated and clarified enforcement steps for ordinance violations.
- Clarified maximum thrust rating of electric boat motors, based on size of watercraft.
- Included reference to speed limit on Lebanon ALD private roads, which is 15 mph. (The speed limit on Deepwood Drive and other paved roads within the District is 25 mph.)
We will be holding a special board meeting on Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. online via Zoom to allow for District residents’ comments on the proposed changes. Sign-in instructions will be listed on the agenda on the ALD website prior to the meeting. Please email questions or items you’d like to discuss to Karen Patterson at [email protected] prior to the meeting, so we can consolidate the comments and facilitate an efficient discussion. Also, if you are unable to attend this meeting but have questions or comments, please contact Karen Patterson. The final updated ordinances will be announced via email blast to residents/owners and will be posted on the amstonlake.org website prior to July 1.
